And, did you know ABC does not have to pay healthcare for the 54 Mexicans they hired. Besides the subsidies the federal government gives to companies that hire foreign workers, not having to pay healthcare for employees is pretty big incentive enough to go out of your way to hire foreign workers don't you think?
UPDATE: MLGW Committee video is still not up in the archives. Every other committee is. Draw your own conclusions.
The following is what I learned from a citizen who attended the meeting.
When questioned about how many foreign workers they have from Mexico they said they only have 54. I wonder if other Latin American countries were left out of that number? That's a question for the next meeting.
When questioned about where those workers live, they couldn't answer. But, Councilwoman Halbert asked about transportation and get this...the foreign workers get to use work vehicles while the locals do not. That's fair to whom?
Remember how they claimed that there just wasn't any interest in these jobs by locals? Never mind the fact that they probably didn't advertise anywhere that had visibility because that would defeat their purpose of hiring foreign workers over locals. Well now they were so pleased with their in-house advertising that had recently brought 500 locals to apply for the job. One of the citizens at the meeting interrupted them to inform our leaders that it was in fact thanks to a help wanted page created by citizens that generated this interest. Incredible!
Berlin Boyd enlightened them to this page on facebook created by concerned citizens...Help Wanted ABC Tree is hiring. When ABC tried responding, Harold Collins silenced them. Score one for THE PEOPLE! And thanks for nothin ABC/MLG&W.
After more questions, ABC admitted they had not advertised outside of MLG&W. No wonder the local population didn't seem interested. THEY DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT IT and when they did, 500 showed interest. Go figure...
End of update (While we are waiting for the video of MLG&W, read this as to what ABC might be up to...Every Sunday thousands of newspapers run fake job ads. Intent is to find a basis to exclude all qualified American applicants.

I was not able to attend yesterdays council meeting but tried watching at least the MLG&W Committee meeting in the archives. Most of these meetings are available to watch shortly after the meetings are over.
How convenient that in light of the scandal reported here Monday and that perhaps ABC Professional Tree Services didn't exactly go out of its way to hire local workers instead of foreign workers...
Every Sunday thousands of newspapers run fake job ads. Intent is to find a basis to exclude all qualified American applicants. the Archive for MLG&W committee meeting is still not up. I hear that it was a pretty interesting meeting. How convenient that the citizens who pay for MLG&W, city government, and their handy dandy online viewing website happen to have technical difficulties over issues that might outrage the citizens. I smell a rat...
I emailed the webmaster asking about the issue. As of now, they have not responded. If they do, i will update.
This issue is not going away no matter how much MLG&W, the City of Memphis, or ABC Tree Professional Tree services obfuscates and delays as they wait for this to blow over.
Hopefully the video will be up soon and I can post it. Meanwhile, shining the light of day on these events can sometimes reverse some of the damage. Here's an example of that

P.S. A friend of mine did attend this meeting and I will update this post with that information later.
