WINDSOR, Colo. - Two random attacks in Northern Colorado -- the fatal shooting of the Windsor cyclist and the shooting of a woman driving on Interstate 25 -- are linked, Windsor police said on Friday.
John Jacoby, 48, was shot and killed on the morning of May 18 while riding his bike north of Windsor, on County Road 15, just south of County Road 72.
Cori Romero, a Milliken woman, was shot in the neck while she was driving on Interstate 25, near Harmony Road, on the night of April 22. She survived and has been released from the hospital.
"This week we did recover evidence that links these two shootings together," Windsor Police Chief John Michaels said at an afternoon news conference. He would not disclose what type of evidence was recovered but sources confirmed to 7NEWS that there is a ballistics link between the two shootings.
"No other cases have been linked to this shooting [that killed the bicyclist]," Michaels said. "I know there have been a lot of broken windows on I-25, car windows. Those have not been linked to this event. It's not that they have been discounted either. The investigation into those incidents is still ongoing, and it's something we will continue to review."
