I'll keep this simple since I would like to bring your attention to how your elected officials see we rubes who dare push back when we don't agree with the ruling elite...we are just the hoi polloi...and we apparently have to play by different rules.
The gazillion dollar tax exempt bonds for the smart meters passed. Sadly, there was not enough pressure by the people to defeat this because people would rather know more about Kanye West and his giant ego than the giant egos of their leaders because when you know things about your local leaders you might feel pressured to act...as a citizen of a successful republic would be required to do. No offense intended...I just wish I could motivate more people to engage.
The Overton Park issue...I don't know how this turned out since I was not able to attend and the online streaming was having technical difficulties which seems to happen ALOT..but go figure.
Now, on to more interesting stuff like the ruling class having to interact and engage with the Hoi Polloi.
If you live in Memphis, you know things have become somewhat contentious due to the Memphis City Council making benefit cuts to the Police Department. This has created a steady flow of citizens attending these meetings and speaking out and expressing their thoughts on different issues.
It is my opinion that most of our leaders would rather YOU not attend. If you are going to disagree with them and tell them how you think they should vote. Oh the nerve of the people holding their elected officials accountable! Who do we think we are? Citizens of a free republic...or so we thought...
Anyhow, back at the Dec 15th council meeting Kommisar Ford made this statement at the heel of the meeting ...."I would challenge you to come to District 6 whenever you want to express your opinions there ...Feel free, I have been asking for people to come down, some people I don't see here now, your Fran Tripletts Sherrie Hoppers, Chett Hoppers, come to District 6 and express your opinions and remember...the 1st amendment right can be reciprocated."
Now, at Tuesday's meeting Kommisar Ford was once again made to listen to a citizen who disagreed with him. Citizens used to be able to give their speaking time to one speaker so one citizen could have more than 2 minutes to speak. Well, we can't have the rubes disturbing the leaders peace so they changed that rule. Supposedly the rule was changed to limit the amount of time a disrespectful citizen can speak. Nevermind that our leaders have more time to speak than we do. Speaking of disrespect...what about the disrespect from the council attorney who couldn't stay awake to hear people speak about the concerns for Memphis Zoo parking snoozing away on a taxpayer funded job? Is that the disrespect of which you speak?
It's not fair that the citizens have this right taken away. Yes, you are a leader and you get to make the rules but the rules are to benefit everyone...not just the ruling class. Since when did dissent become disrespectful?
Watch the following video of Chett Hopper speaking and you decide if he's being disrespectful....
Understandably her husband was concerned and decided to visit Mr. Ford at work to discuss this matter. He documented the meeting. Mr. Ford wasn't there so he spoke to a relative. Fran's husband went there to clarify what Mr. Ford meant by his statements.
Apparently, Mr. Ford sent Mr. Flinn (I'm assuming he sent Shea Flinn?)to her husbands work and told him he was going to file charges? See how Ford responds. This is chilling. Is it OK for a council member to threaten a citizen?
And is the citizen just supposed to sit down and shut up? Perhaps the matter could have been handled differently by the individuals involved but what recourse do citizens have when they are being threatened by elected officials?
Mr. Ford went on to say this "The 72% of the people that voted for me can't wait to see you"...What the Hades does that mean? Is that a threat because it sounds like one? He goes on "I'm just sayin...don't hide behind a microphone in a room, don't hide behind a microphone at a radio station, come to District 6 and I'll let you know when the next meeting is but don't ever think you can intimidate me or any of your cohorts EVER BECAUSE YOU CAN'T because I'm covered (What the Hades does that mean?) He goes on to tell them that their next address could be 201 Poplar. WOW! Only the councilmen are allowed to intimidate and threaten? You rubes need to learn your place....So YOU the ruling elite leader can threaten, intimidate, question us rubes but if we DARE fight back well you just might end up in JAIL??????
I know everyone is focused on the federal level of government where presidents are elected but oppression is happening on the local level and NO ONE even even knows about it. It starts in your community and works it's way up to D.C. We have to fix things HERE 1st.
What will it take to get more citizens to show up for their liberty.?..which unbeknownst to most of them is teetering on the brink? Rightly or wrongly this citizen reacted to a threat from a local elected official. It is not how I would have handled it but....at least he and his circle of family and friends is willing to engage. Freedom is not lost all in one swoop. It's lost incrementally...little by little...step by step and it's happening before our very eyes.
Your county needs YOU to engage! WHAT's IT GOING TO TAKE TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN?
Fran Triplett's husband went to the funeral home knowing he would not be there since he works at Shelby County Schools. Shea Flinn came to Fran with a message from Ford AFTER Ford found out both Fran and Sherrie filed ethics reports. He said if Fran continued to push the issue he would file charges which he did when she didn't back down. Shockingly all reports she filed are MIA. Sherrie's reports were simply denied.
Supposedly, the ethics department couldn't view the disc Sherrie had sent along with the complaint. Really? Perhaps they should read my blog because no one else seems be having a problem viewing Ford tell some citizens their next home might be 201 Poplar.
So Memphis has an ethics board for what? Public Relations would be my guess.
Clarification on what Fran's husband did and why:
Scotty Triplett Showed up at a Neutral location KNOWING Councilman Ford would not be there since he does not work there. Scotty documented his actions to his department because he had NOTHING to hide. He was not going to intimidate anyone because again he knows, as does everyone, Ford is a math teacher. Scotty Triplett left his number with a relative at the funeral home. If that sounds intimidating to you, you might be a college student needing a trigger alert before you read this article in your safe space.
The fact that Scotty Triplett went to the funeral home in uniform was NOT intimidation. He knew Ford was not there and went there specifically to leave Ford his phone number. I'll tell you what intimidation is...Being called out BY NAME by a Memphis City Council member and challenging them to show up at a meeting in his district where HIS PEOPLE would reciprocate! How about a former Memphis City Council member approaching you and letting you know Ford would file charges against them AFTER Ford found out that ethics reports had been filed against him. RETALIATION MUCH? How about trying to file an ethics complaint when the ethics department says they can't even file the report, that she's sorry but it's over her head? So is the ethics department there to protect those in power? Sure seems like it. Did you see the tone Ford took at this week's meeting? THAT'S MORE LIKE INTIMIDATION!
A complaint has been filed at the state on this matter. Hopefully they will at least look into it. I will keep you updated.
